The Study of the Characteristics of Biobriquettes Synthesized from a Combination of Sugarcane Bagasse Biomass and Fish Bones with Molasses Adhesive

Waste production from fishing activities is still high at 20-30% and annual fish production is 6.5 million tons. The bagasse produced by each sugar factory can reach 90% of each production. Less than optimal use of bagasse can cause accumulation of bagasse. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of the composition of bagasse charcoal and fish bones on the quality of biobriquettes including water content, ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon content and calorific value. The results of testing the quality parameters of the biobriquettes produced were then compared with SNI 01-6235-2000 concerning quality standards for wood charcoal briquettes. This research uses a fast pyrolysis method with a temperature of 500 oC for the process of carbonizing biomass into charcoal. Variations in mass composition of bagasse charcoal (AT) to fish bone charcoal (TI) used in this research include (100%:0%), (75%:25%), (25%:75%), and (0 %:100%). This type of biobriquette adhesive uses molasses with a composition of 10% of the mass of the biomass mixture. The water content values of all biobriquette compositions meet SNI 01-6235-2000. However, the values for ash content, volatile matter content, bound carbon content and calories still do not meet the SNI 01-6235-2000 quality standards. The best biobriquettes with the highest calorific value were obtained with a composition of bagasse to fish bones of 25%:75%. The results of testing the quality parameters of biobriquettes on this composition were obtained, including a calorific value of 1946 cal/g, water content of 3.1%, ash content of 47.6%, volatile matter content of 30.7%, and fixed carbon content of 22.2%..
