Abstract

In today's global era of increasing competition, polytechnic graduates require English language skills that are compatible with the demands of industry and the workplace. Students must learn active English as part of their preparation for entering the workforce. However, the reality is that polytechnic graduates have failed to meet the industrial world's expectations. The purpose of this study is to examine the need for English language proficiency in business and professional communication in the industrial and workplace settings. The specific goal of this research is to analyse the need (Need Analysis) for English language competencies, particularly for Business and Professional Communication as required by Industry, as well as to evaluate and develop an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) English curriculum at PPNS to meet industry requirements. The required data was collected and analysed through observations, interviews, and questionnaires administered to professionals, managers, directors, and staff from 50 companies employing graduates. The expected result is to create relevance between the ESP English curriculum, especially English for Business and Professional Communication, with the needs of industry and the world of work
