Evaluasi dan Analisis Kebutuhan APAR pada Gedung Produksi Perusahaan Jamu Berdasarkan Standar NFPA 10

Abstract

The herbal medicine industry is a sector with a potential fire risk due to the use of raw materials, chemicals, and production equipment, which can be sources of fire. Therefore, an adequate fire protection system is required to minimize the risk of loss to workers, company assets, and the production process. One of the fire protection facilities that plays a crucial role in early fire handling is the Portable Fire Extinguisher (APAR). This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the available APARs and analyze the required number and layout of APARs in the herbal medicine company's production building based on the NFPA 10 of 2022 standard. The study was conducted using a descriptive observational method with quantitative and qualitative approaches. Data collection was carried out through field observations, area measurements, evaluation of APAR conditions using check sheets, and analysis of the company's supporting documents. The results showed that the APAR protection system compliance level reached 80%, with 12 of the 15 parameters meeting standard requirements. However, several non-conformities were still found, including areas that were not optimally protected by APARs, the lack of APARs on operational vehicles, and a suboptimal system for recording inspection results. Based on the analysis of fire extinguisher (APAR) needs in ten production building areas, a total requirement of 17 fire extinguisher units was obtained, with types and ratings tailored to the fire hazard classifications in each area. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for improving the effectiveness of fire protection systems and supporting fire prevention and response efforts within the company environment
