Abstract

The increasing demand for Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) products has driven palm oil processing companies to operate their production processes continuously, thereby increasing the risk of operational disruptions and potential fire incidents. One of the critical components in a fire protection system is the jockey pump, which functions to maintain water pressure stability and ensure that the fire protection system is always ready for operation. Historical data from an FMCG company recorded 19 jockey pump failures during the 2020–2025 period, with an increasing trend observed in the final year. Failure handling has remained largely reactive and has not been supported by systematic risk analysis, potentially reducing the reliability of the fire protection system. This study aims to analyze the risk of jockey pump failures using the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method and to determine improvement priorities using the Action Priority (AP) Table. The research methodology involved identifying component functions, potential failure modes, failure effects, and failure causes within the jockey pump system. Risk assessment was conducted based on the severity, occurrence, and detection parameters to determine risk priority levels. Subsequently, corrective action priorities were established using the AP Table. The results identified 30 potential failure modes across 3 main components and 22 subcomponents. Based on the Action Priority analysis, six subcomponents were identified as requiring prioritized corrective actions. The pressure switch and relay were classified as high-priority items, while the main circuit breaker (MCB), contactor, stem gate, and stator were classified as medium-priority items. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a basis for developing preventive maintenance strategies to improve the reliability of the fire protection system.
