Abstract

Fire is one of the threats that can cause significant damage to industrial facilities, particularly at companies involved in the distribution of Hazardous and Toxic Materials (B3). This study aims to conduct a fire risk assessment and determine the need for portable fire extinguishers (PFEs) at a B3 distribution company. The risk assessment was conducted using the FLAME (Fire Risk Assessment Method for Enterprises) method, which evaluates risks to occupant safety (Occupant Risk Level/ORL) and property protection (Property Risk Level/PRL). The study scope consisted of 11 operational areas, including a vehicle parking lot, warehouse, vehicle maintenance workshop, B3 waste transfer station, and other supporting facilities. The assessment results showed that, for occupant risk, there were 3 areas with low risk, 3 areas with moderate risk, 4 areas with high risk, and 1 area with very high risk. Meanwhile, for property risk, there were 3 areas with low risk, 4 areas with moderate risk, 3 areas with high risk, and 1 area with very high risk. Based on the risk assessment results and in accordance with NFPA 10:2022, the fire protection requirement was determined to be 9 units of dry chemical powder PFEs, consisting of 8 units of 6 kg PFEs and 1 unit of 3 kg PFE. The results of this study can be used as a basis for improving the fire protection system at the company to support effective fire risk management.
