Abstract

The Container Stevedoring Company is a service provider specializing in container loading and unloading
operations. The use of cargo handling equipment plays a crucial role in service delivery. The Rubber Tyre
Gantry (RTG) crane is one of the key pieces of equipment at PT BMP. PT BMP operates 22 RTG units,
within which several operational issues have been identified that may hinder the loading and unloading
process. Each RTG consists of 12 components, namely HOIST (hstsy), GANTRY (gtrsyt), TROLLEY (trlsyt),
SPREADER (spdsyt), HEADBLOCK (spdhdblksyt), TLS (tlssyt), ELECTRONIC CONTROL (elccontsyt),
LIGHTING (lighsyt), CABIN OP (cabopsyt), AUXILIARY (auxsvc), POWER (powsyt), OPERATION
BREAKDOWN (OB), ACCIDENT (ao), and ENGINE (engsyt). The objectives of this study are to identify
the factors causing equipment failures, determine the Risk Priority Number (RPN), and propose preventive
maintenance strategies. The research method applied is Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM),
incorporating Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to calculate Severity, Occurrence, and Detection
values in order to determine the RPN. The findings indicate that the lowest RPN value is 22.69%,
corresponding to the corner post risk indicator, while the highest RPN value is 185.63%, associated with
the indicator “dynamo stante mati.”
