Abstract

Pipe support are designed to transfer loads from the pipe to the supporting structure. Pipe
Support on the Fuel Gas system is less than optimal in terms of economy and efficiency. There are 2”
and 3” diameter pipes, supported by a 10” pipe and an H-Beam. The design of pipe support is carried
out to obtain an optimal design that is technically, and economical. This analysis is manual calculation
of pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II, pipe support structure analysis using SAP 2000. Maximum
allowable pipe span GF-068-B013-3”_Sht_1 8.195 m, and GF-191-B013- 2”_Sht_1 6,667 m. For line
GF-068-B013-3”_Sht_1 the resulting are: sustained load 3596.6 psi, occasional load 3340.1 psi, and
thermal load 24265.3 psi. For line GF-191-B013- 2”_Sht_1 the resulting sustained load 4123.3 psi,
occasional load 3793 psi, and thermal load 19771.9 psi. The stress values in both pipe lines not more
than the allowable stress limits according to ASME B31.3. The optimal pipe support design is T-Post
2 using beam profile I-100x50x5x7 and column H-100x100x6x8. The filler joint used E7015, SMAW
welding. Base plate 200 mm x 200 mm, with thickness 5 mm. Four anchor bolts for base plate with M20
diameter and minimum length of 340 mm..
