Abstract

A company engaged in the EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction) sector located in
Gresik, East Java, built and designed a vertical vessel type pressure vessel (VE-9101) with a capacity
of 15.10 BFPD (Barrel Fluid Per Day) with a design pressure of 87 psig and a design temperature 392
°F. The method that will be used in designing this vertical pressure vessel is modeling using PV Elite
software and simulation using ANSYS software. In designing the line process piping using CAESAR II
software and referring to the ASME B31.3 standard with pipe material A-106 gr B with NPS 2 sch 40,
NPS 3 sch 40 producing a minimum thickness of 0.124 in, 0.140 in. From the research, it was found
that the thickness of the manual calculation is 0.1875 in for the head and 0.25 in for the shell. While
the thickness of the calculation of the PV Elite software is 0.1875 in for the head and 0.25 in for the
shell. The MAWP Head and Shell values in pressure vessels from the results of manual calculations
and PV Elite software are the same, namely 272,356 psi and 359,712 psi. Furthermore, from the
simulation using ANSYS, the deflection value is 0.00013992 inch and the von-mises stress value is
208.18 psi. Flange check analysis according to ASME B16.5 using a pressure equivalent produces a
maximum value of 505,326 psi with an allowable pressure rating of 589,424 psi.
