Abstract

Crude oil is one of oil and gas industry product containing water, sand, salt mineral, asphalt,
CO2 and H2S. H2S cause crude oil become acid. These conditions cause corrosion in the pipe. Inhibitor
addition is one of the effectives ways to reduce the existence of corrosion in the pipe. To find the effective
uses of inhibitors, do the corrosion rate test. After that calculate the remaining life and efficiency of each
inhibitor. Corrosion rate obtained from carbon steel SA 106 grade B material test result, used potentiotat
test method. The test used Potassium Chromate, Sodium Nitrite and Sodium Acetate inhibitors with
formation water solution that had varying pH and inhibitor concentrations. The potentiostat test based on
ASTM G-5 standard, while remaining life calculation based on API 570 standard. The inhibitor efficiency
calculation based on Corrosion Engineering Principles and Practices. The final results of the test showed
that specimens with Potassium Chromate inhibitors had the lowest corrosion is 0.03979 mm/year. The
highest remaining life is 78.69 years. The best inhibitor efficiency is 76.63%. The conclusion of the test
results is potassium chromate inhibitors are the most effective inhibitor than sodium nitrite and sodium
acetate.
