Abstract

One of construction company at Gresik will build a tanks for LPG (Liquified Pressurized Gas) storage tank at Tenau, Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur. This project is to build spherical tank with pressure design 18 kg/cm2 and temperature design 65°. The inside diameter is 12800 mm and vessel support designed using legs. This research is expected the spherical tank can be used at it’s best performance as storage tank. The build of spherical tanks shall calculate the thickness, MAWP, MAEP, wind load, seismic load and also the support design. For the process the methode that will be used on this tanks design is the oretical calculation based on standard ASME sec VIII rules for construction pressure vessel, while to know the von mises stress will use finite element method simulated on ANSYS software. Based on the result the thickness of upper head and bottom head is 1,5625 inch and 1,6875 inch. Deflection cause of wind load is 0,00000753 inch and the moment at base cause of seismic load is 180124541,1 lb with the deflection on the support is 0,00107 inch. The highest stress value on head is 12145 psi with sizing mesh 5 inch.
