Abstract

Abstract – Line pipe on one of the State Patrol Boats, a leak is located on the Sea Water Cooling System line 04 / SW-BES / 04-003 just before the Gate Valve. The line has the potential for erosion and water hammer because the cooling system does not have a special strainer as a filter for slug carried by sea water and the operation of valve openings is very often done on the system. To determine the specific phenomenon as the most dominant cause of leakage, a further calculation of erosion and water hammer was carried out on the line. The calculation results show that the thickness value does not meet the minimum thickness requirement in year 6 on the graph, which is 4.5 mm due to erosion in the system. While the value of the water hammer has a pressure increase of 29.4 bars with a recommended minimum thickness of 4.46 mm. In this case it can be concluded that the dominant cause of leakage is erosion which also affects the minimum thickness value when there is a pressure increase due to the water hammer. The solution that can be given in this case is giving Simplex S Strainer with filtering specifications up to 45 micrometers. The results of calculations carried out after the administration of the Simplex X Strainer show a fairly high pipeline lifetime of up to 70 years.
