Abstract

Abstract - On fabrication process of an offshore platforms project there was a difference between two pipeline riser designs. The difference between both designs are located on the reduction amount of riser clamp. That is why comparison analysis are needed to determine the reason why there are two different riser designs with different amount of riser clamps. The comparison performed in this paper is based on effective span length calculation and simulation based on the hydrodynamic loads on both riser designs with Ansys software. Simulation are performed with different phases of fluids, one-phase and two-phase. Based on the calculation results, riser B have better value of effective span length for most of the spans, while the entire span of design C did nor have the value that are needed. Based on simulations results, the span of riser design C is capable to restrain wave and current load better than riser design B. And for fatigue life value for both risers have the exact same value of 106 cycle despite the difference of design. Therefore, the reason behind the reduction of riser clamp is located on the resistance of riser design C against load and wind load, the constant value of fatigue life, and more economic material cost.
