Abstract

Abstract – In piping system, the suction pump line works at a design temperature of 80oC and a design pressure of 14 bar (G). There is one problem occur in the routing of the suction pump pipe. The nozzle load value of the suction pump 33-LP-0004 turns out to exceed the permitted standard of API 610. Based on this problem, the expansion loop design, stress analysis, calculation of the natural frequencies value and analysis of the nozzle load on the suction pump line need to be done by using CAESAR II software. The calculation is based on ASME B31.3 for stress analysis and API 610 for nozzle loads analysis and calculating natural frequency values. The analysis results on the design of expansion loops with dimensions of 17.49 ft (5330 mm) for H and 12.59 ft (3840 mm) for W indicate the stress values meet with  ASME B31.3 standard due to sustained load, thermal load, and occasional load.  In addition the results of force and moment values on the nozzle load and natural frequency values also meet API 610 standard. Based on the results, the expansion loop design is safe and acceptable.
