Abstract

Mining work is one of the jobs that has high risks and dangers. Moreover, underground mining work is also included in confined space work, so it will be dangerous if exposed to hazardous gases such as carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2). On the other hand, the application of technological innovation in personal protective equipment has not been maximized. One thing that can be done is to utilize safety vests on workers as a medium in its application. In improving worker safety, this study developed Smart Vest, a smart vest based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that can detect CO, CO2 gas in real-time. This system uses the MQ-7 sensor to measure CO gas, MQ-135 to detect CO2. Data from the sensor is processed using the ESP32 module and then sent to the server to be monitored using the website. Users can monitor the condition of the work environment directly through the website which provides early warnings if there are parameters that exceed the specified threshold value. The test results show that this vest is able to detect environmental parameters with high accuracy and provide notifications in real-time. With the integration of IoT technology, Smart Safety Vest is an innovative solution to improve work safety in underground mining environments
