Abstract

The warehouse is one of the vital areas in the operational activities of oil and gas support companies, serving as a storage space for materials, tools, and supporting equipment, most of which are highly flammable. Based on observations conducted in the warehouse area with a total area of 900 m², it was found that the active fire protection system, specifically Portable Fire Extinguishers (APAR), does not yet meet the required standards. In this study, a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) was conducted along with an evaluation of APAR requirements as part of the active fire protection system. The FRA was carried out based on NFPA 551 standards, while the evaluation of APAR requirements refers to the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower Regulation No. 4 of 1980. The results of the FRA identified 3 areas with a very high fire risk level and 4 areas with a high fire risk level within the warehouse. The evaluation of the fire protection system revealed that the existing 2 APAR units are insufficient to meet the minimum standards. Based on the calculated requirements for fire protection in a 900 m² warehouse, a total of  5 units of 6 kg Dry Chemical Powder APAR are needed to optimally protect the entire area. This indicates a shortage of 6 APAR units that must be addressed immediately to minimize the impact of fire. Therefore, additional APAR units and proper placement adjustments are necessary to ensure the fire protection system functions effectively in preventing and controlling fires within the warehouse area
