Abstract

One of the stages of packing work that requires a lot of manpower is bagging. Bagging activities in animal feed companies involve repetitive activities with heavy loads, so they have the potential to cause muscle and skeletal disorders (MSDs) in workers. Based on the MSDs complaint survey according to SNI 9011:2021, it was found that 60% of workers experienced high-risk complaints, especially in the upper back, lower back, and thighs. This study aims to assess the ergonomic risks in bagging activities and provide recommendations for improving work facilities based on anthropometric data of Indonesian men. The research method uses a quantitative approach, with primary data collection through questionnaire surveys and documentation of work postures, as well as risk analysis using a risk matrix and a checklist of potential ergonomic hazards based on SNI 9011:2021. The results of the analysis showed five awkward postures with a total ergonomic hazard factor score of 9 (dangerous category). Recommendations for improvement were made through redesigning work facilities, namely sack tables and work chairs, with dimensions adjusted based on anthropometric data of Indonesian men. After the simulation, the results of the redesign of the work facilities showed changes in work posture to be more ergonomic, where workers can work with a neutral body position and the physical workload is reduced. After the redesign, the ergonomic hazard potential score decreased significantly from 9 to 2, indicating the effectiveness of the improvements in reducing the risk of MSDs in bagging workers.
