Abstract

The Indonesian railway component manufacturing industry plays a vital role in supporting the national railway sector. This company not only provides engineering consultancy services but also produces crucial components such as aluminum carbodies, interiors, exteriors, train propulsion, railway panels, and various other manufactured products. With operations spanning several strategic locations including the Inka workshop, Sukosari workshop, and Rejomulyo warehouse, the company manages a complex supply chain. This research focuses on the company's building and the Candi Sewu workshop in Madiun, which serves as a production hub for essential materials like train interiors, panel plates, cables, and laser cutting equipment. The intensity of production activities, the use of high-power electrical equipment, office operations, cargo lifts, and electrical network repairs create significant fire risks. According to the Decree of the Minister of Manpower No.KEP.186/MEN/1999, the Candi Sewu workshop is classified as having a medium fire hazard level I. Fire incidents in the manufacturing industry can cause massive material and human losses, damage reputation, and lead to legal issues. Data from the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower in 2022 indicates that 12% of workplace accidents in the manufacturing sector were caused by fires, suggesting low risk mitigation. This study aims to identify and evaluate the existing fire protection systems at the Candi Sewu workshop and provide relevant recommendations. Given the lack of valid hazard identification data, this research employs a qualitative Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) method based on a checklist, referencing NFPA 551 Year 2022 and relying on expert judgment. The results show that 3 areas (pantry, cutting laser, QC), initially with high fire potential, decreased to medium after additional protection. Meanwhile, 8 areas with medium fire potential (office 1st floor, production part 1, logistics, warehouse, office 2nd floor, production part 2, office 3rd floor, production part 3) successfully reduced to low fire potential after evaluating additional protection. This enhanced protection is crucial, as the risk of fire can still occur at any time in these areas.
