Abstract

The Department of Manpower of Gresik Regency is an agency tasked with assisting the Regent in implementing government affairs in the field of labor. Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is a collection of health complaints that are only felt by someone when they are active inside a building, where this condition can be caused by physical environmental factors at the workplace and individual factors. Based on the results of a preliminary study conducted on 10 employees of the Department of Manpower of Gresik Regency, it was found that 8 employees experienced SBS. This research aims to identify the general description of SBS incidents in the office building of the Department of Manpower of Gresik Regency and to identify the relationship between physical environmental factors (temperature, humidity, airflow speed, and lighting) and individual factors (age, gender, work tenure, and history of allergies) with SBS symptoms. Data collection was conducted through the distribution of questionnaires, measurement of the work environment using measuring instruments such as a thermohygrometer to measure temperature and humidity, an anemometer to measure airflow speed, a luxmeter to measure lighting, and SBS symptoms were identified using the Indoor Climate Questionnaire. This study uses the chi-square test to determine the relationship of each variable with SBS symptoms. Factors related to SBS symptoms are temperature (p-value = 0.009), humidity (p-value = 0.009), lighting (p-value = 0.001), age (p-value = 0.001), gender (p-value = 0.009), and work tenure (p-value = 0.001).
