Abstract

The Ro-Ro Ferry 19010 GT is a converted vessel from a car carrier originally from Japan, accommodating approximately 1286 passengers with a Length over All (LoA) of 146 meters and a tonnage of 19010 GT. This conversion has led to changes in the design of Life-Saving Appliances (LSA). Safety equipment is crucial not only for those working onshore but also for the crew and passengers on board. Life-Saving Appliances are mandatory on every ship and serve to protect passengers and crew in emergencies. These appliances include lifejackets, lifebuoys, lifeboats, liferafts, rescue boats, parachute flares, smoke signals, hand flares, and communication equipment. The availability of safety equipment during maritime operations is essential and is a requirement of both national and international regulations. The process involves calculating the required number of LSAs based on the ship type, main dimensions, general arrangement, and the number of passengers and crew to ensure adequacy in emergencies. This calculation refers to SOLAS Chapter III regulations concerning Life-Saving Appliances, the LSA Code, and other IMO Interim Guidelines, depending on the specific LSA being assessed. The results of the research is the Ro-Ro Ferry Ship 19010 GT must provide 1519 units of lifejackets, 23 units of lifebuoys, 6 units of lifeboats, 16 units of liferafts, 2 units of rescue boats, 12 units of parachute flares, 44 units of smoke signals, 132 units of hand flares, as well as communication equipment including 3 units of VHF two-way radios and 2 units of radar transponders
