Abstract

Savonius wind turbine is one type of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). Despite its advantages, it still has several limitations. Various studies had made to improve and  optimize the performance of it but the performance result is not optimum. Based on that condition, this numerical study research was conducted to analyze the effect of deflector angle variations on the turbine advancing blade side, combined with  4 cm reduction in arc length. Numerical simulation was carried out using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method with ANSYS 2020 R2 software, applying deflector angle variations of 0°, 15°, 30°, and 45° at wind speeds of 5, 6, and 7 m/s. The results indicate that the addition of a deflector can enhance Cp and Ct values, with the highest performance achieved at a 45° deflector angle and a wind speed of 6 m/s. This study contributes to the development of more efficient wind turbine designs and can serve as a reference for future research in the field of renewable energy
