Abstract

In previous experimental studies, Savonius wind turbine research has been carried out by
adding fins and disturbance cylinders in front of the returning blade using the myring n = 1 equation,
the performance is proven to increase. The method used is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to
validate the experimental results, knowing the value of coefficient of torque (Ct) and coefficient of
power (Cp). The simulated Savonius wind turbine has a diameter ratio (ds/D) of 0.4 and a spacing ratio
(S/d) of 1.7 and uses angle variations of 45o, 50o, 55o, and 60o. The wind speed variation is 6 m/s. The
best performance of the turbine occurred at an angle variation of 60o in front of the returning blade
and wind speed of 6m/s. The percentage increase was 30.31% with a Coefficient of Power (Cp) value
of 0.422 at a TSR of 0.8, compared to a turbine without a disturbance cylinder.
