Abstract

Temperature control of transformer is important aspect in maintaining the performance and life of transformer. This research purpose a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based control approach and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) method to keep the temperature within safe and optimal limits. The PLC-based approach is used to control the system automatically, and enables efficient supervision. The system consists of temperature sensors that monitor the transformer's environmental conditions. PLC as the brain of the system that processes the data, and actuators to regulate the coolant in the transformer. The system consists of transformer, temperature sensor, PLC, HMI and other components. In previous research, the transformer control system that uses an IOT-based control system uses Arduino. In this research, the transformer control system uses PLC and HMI.. The realisation of the transformer temperature control system using this PID controller was made and tested for effectiveness at a setpoint value of 300C with a motor speed of 500rpm. It shows that the motor energy used is only 33% of the highest motor energy. The integration between PLC-based control and PID method can be an effective solution to automatically manage transformer room temperature, improve operational efficiency, and extend transformer life by minimising the risk of failure due to uncontrolled temperature.
