Abstract

This final project was created because there is no autopilot module for small vessels less
than 24 metres in length. Generally, the steering system uses hydraulics which consists of many complex
components. With the introduction of the Cycloidal gearbox, the current problem can be overcome as
this gearbox simplifies the installation process and reduces the number of components. The use of an
autopilot aims to improve the vessel's ability to locate and identify fish more efficiently, either
automatically or with the assistance of the steering wheel. This research involves the design and
technical analysis of a steering system using a Cycloidal Gearbox on an autopilot fishing boat. An
experimental method was used with variations of 10 : 1, 15 : 1, and 40 : 1 ratios for comparison. The
main results show that the minimum torque of the stepper shaft is 393 Nm, the minimum power of the
stepper is 11.77 Watts, the best gearbox ratio is 10 : 1 with the highest torque reaching 7,555 Nm, and
the gearbox efficiency is 61.73%. The estimated production cost of the prototype with 3D printing
technology is around Rp1.661.000,00.
