Abstract

The passenger ship on the Kupang - Rote route underwent modification or re-building due to sinking at Balok Harbor, East Nusa Tenggara in 2021. So it is necessary to change the propulsion system on the ship. Starting from the above problems, planning for the selection of a new main engine will be carried out so that a matching point is obtained between the hull, propeller, and the power of the new main engine. The first step is to calculate the resistance manually (Harvald) and use maxsurf software. The next step is the calculation of power requirements (Brake Horse Power) to adjust to the availability of the main engine. Based on the calculation, the resistance value is 132.777 kN. The total main engine power requirement is 1128.1111 kW or 1512.2136 HP. The calculated power obtained is below the availability of the selected main engine power, namely MAK 1140 kW. After propeller selection, a propeller type B4-85 with a diameter of 2.27 meters, an efficiency of 0.620 and no cavitation was obtained. At the time of the trial, it produced a power of 83,77% at 100% Rpm, while the service produced a power of 87,96% at 100% Rpm.
