Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) to limit ship carbon emissions in an effort to achieve zero emissions targets in the future. The analysis was conducted on Ro-Ro vehicle carrier ship with MAN B&W 8S50MC-C engines and Ro-Ro passenger ships with MAN B&W 8S50MC-C engines, plus two Mitsubishi S12R-T2MPTK engines, both operating at 21 knots. The calculation results show that the Ro-Ro Vehicle Carrier ship achieved an EEXI value of 28.55 gr CO2/T-mile, which has met the limit requirement of 32.85 gr CO2/T-mile. Meanwhile, the Ro-Ro Passenger ship achieved an EEXI value of 13.21 gr CO2/T-mile, also below the required limit of 24,072 gr CO2/T-mile. Both ships meet the EEXI criteria, noting that the calculation for Ro-Ro passenger ships uses gross tonnage (GT) as the capacity divisor. This research confirms the importance of EEXI implementation in efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector.
