Abstract

Dual function refrigeration system at fluid machinery laboratory of the Shipbuilding Institute of Polytechnic Surabaya is a refrigeration system in default use R-12. Currently, the system has been retrofitted with R-134a to replace R-12 which has been banned. When retrofit process, the problem is unidentified about the optimal mass of refrigerant charge in the system. So this project as been conducted as an experiment with several variations of the refrigerant mass charge in the system. The highest value of EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio) of dual function refrigeration system at this experiment is 2,888 was obtained in water chiller mode with 6L/m chilled water flowrate at 470 gram refrigerant mass.
