Abstract

Movement of a boat that oscillates or fluctuates in the high seas caused by large and continuous waves can cause symptoms such as headaches, nausea and even vomiting which are often termed as sea sickness or motion sickness. This can be reduced by making some modifications such as adding fin stabilizer. Comfort for passengers is seen from the index of the number of passengers who experience seasickness in certain periods with reference to the ISO-2631/1997 standard. These additions are made using Maxsurf Motion and Maxsurf Modeller software. In this study also used two variations of Fin placement, namely the Engine Room and the Midship. With variations in the direction of the waves that are 45 deg, 90 deg, and 180 deg then simulated Roll, Pitch, and Heaven. From the simulation results it was found that the placement of Fin Stabilizer on Midship had an impact with the lowest RMS acquisition and the comfort level was also the highest compared to without fin or when fin was placed in the Engine Room.
