ANALISIS METODE STATIC THERMAL TENSIONING (STT) DENGAN VARIASI JARAK HEATER PADA MATERIAL STAINLESS STELL 304 PROSES PENGELASAN GMAW TERHADAP SIFAT MEKANIS DAN STRUKTUR MAKRO
Abstract
The welding process could have been considered good, effective, and efficient if it had met the standards. One of the welding defects that frequently occurred and was crucial in the welding process was distortion caused by heat and residual stress during the welding process. The Static Thermal Tensioning (STT) method was a technique that could minimize distortion during welding. Based on the formulated background, this study aimed to investigate the effect of the STT method on SUS 304 material, using heater distance variations of 60 mm, 80 mm, and 100 mm as parameters. The experimental research design used heater distance variations of 60 mm, 80 mm, and 100 mm, with ER 308 welding wire of 1 mm diameter and 99.99% Argon as shielding and backing gas on SUS 304 material. The instruments used in this study included tensile tests, macro tests, and hardness tests. The analysis results showed the highest hardness value was found in the Base Metal, while the lowest hardness value was found in the Weld Metal. The tensile test results showed the highest tensile strength at a heater distance variation of 60 mm with a value of 562.93 MPa, while the lowest tensile strength was found at a heater distance variation of 100 mm with a value of 497.22 MPa. The conclusion of this research was that the farther the heater distance, the more it affected the tensile strength and hardness value of the material.
