Abstract

Abstract - In one of oil and gas companies in Indonesia, there is a 3 km water injection pipeline (underground) installed with FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) material. Previously SA 106 Grade B carbon steel was used as its material. Later the other pipelines was installed with different material, this research comparing them from the technical side including the lifetime of material and in terms of economical value. This research is supported by immersion test to determine the rate of corrosion in both materials refer, to ASTM G31 - 90 standard. Their lifetime are  obtained from the calculation of remaining life calculation based on API standard 570. To find their resistance, FRP material toward heat and pH level in fluid, the TGA (Thermogravimetric Analyzer) was testend. Based on  the analysis and calculation above, the company can save a lot of money if FRP material is used  for the next pipeline installation
