This study discusses the risk assessment of test separators at a company operating in the oil and gas industry since 1999. Test separators are used to separate fluids obtained from drilling wells and to monitor fluid data from the wells. Test separators have a high potential for danger, including the risk of fire and explosion, which can endanger the safety of operators and the local community. These risks originate from internal factors such as corrosion and material ageing, as well as external factors such as human error and natural disasters or unexpected events. The Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) method, which is based on the API 580 and 581 standards, was used in this study to evaluate the potential risk of test separator failure. The research framework includes identifying damage mechanisms, evaluating the probability and consequences of failure, and determining the risk level and inspection schedule. The main objective of this study is to understand the causes of damage, calculate the associated risks, and design an appropriate inspection strategy to prevent system failure. The results of this study are expected to provide recommendations for preventing damage to test separators during operation.
