Abstract

The piping system line 100-HOS410301-31160-1EC is a piping system connected to a hot oil heater. In the existing design, the line interferes with structural beams and lighting panels, making a redesign necessary due to its classification as part of a critical path. This final project proposes two redesign alternatives to achieve the most optimal configuration. The process begins with calculating the maximum allowable pipe span based on stress and deflection limits, which resulted in a span of

25.64 ft. Stress analysis using simulation software indicated that all stress values remained within the limits set by ASME B31.3. For the first redesign, the maximum stresses from sustained, occasaional wind, occasional seismic, and thermal loads were 2681.80 psi, 6813.76 psi, 15929.20 psi, and 13528.50 psi. For the second, they were 3941.06 psi, 8006.26 psi, 20352.50 psi, and 9901.89 psi. Both designs are declared safe for implementation..
