The piping system in the steam header area of a crude palm oil (CPO) processing facility operates at high temperatures, reaching up to 305.5°F, which can cause significant thermal expansion in the pipes. To mitigate this effect, the system uses two threedimensional expansion loops with a pipe size of 10 inches. This study aims to evaluate the stress in the existing piping design by modeling and analyzing the system using pipe stress analysis software. The stress analysis considers three loading conditions: sustained load, thermal load, and occasional load. The results indicate that the thermal stress exceeds the allowable limit, reaching 140.2%, which classifies the system as overstressed and unfit for service. Additionally, the allowable pipe span was calculated based on stress and deflection limitations to determine the optimal support spacing. The most critical value was 8.48 meters, derived from the deflection limitation approach. These findings highlight the need for redesigning the expansion loop configuration to ensure the piping system remains safe and reliable under thermal loads.
