The Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) project is currently in the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) phase, focusing on the design of a fire protection system for equipment containing methanol fluid, such as methanol storage tanks, centrate tanks, and hot methanol drums. According to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), methanol is classified as a flammable substance, thus requiring a reliable fire protection system. The system design incorporates foam extinguishing media in accordance with NFPA 11 and a water spray system based on NFPA 15, aimed at preventing fire spread and cooling the surrounding area. The fire protection design is divided into two main systems: the firefighting system and the protection system, each with different pipe and pump specifications. Manual calculations show that the firefighting system requires a head of 19.37 meters with a pump power of 1.41 kW, while the protection system requires a head of 31.689 meters and a power of 43.88 kW. Meanwhile, software-based analysis results in a head of 18.5 meters and 1.38 kW for the firefighting system, and 31.149 meters with 43.56 kW for the protection system. The pumps selected are Grundfos NBG 100-80-160/158 for firefighting and LS 250-200-381B for protection.
