ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE ADDITION OF INHIBITORS AGAINST THE RATE OF CORROSION OF MATERIALS IN THE SYSTEM OF COOLING FRESH WATER PIPES IN THE ENGINE ROOM KM. SATYA KENCANA
Abstract
An obstacle or problem that frequently occur or arise in piping systems are corrosion. Where one of
the causes of corrosion is due to temperature. with various methods are used to minimize the corrosion rate is
one of them by adding inhibitor in fresh water cooling pipe systems Main Engine that can inhibit the corrosion
rate. In this final Task performed testing using the kind of inhibitor Na2Cro4 (sodium Chromate). The purpose of
this test is to determine the effect of variation temperature and variations ppm used against corrosion rate of fresh
water cooling pipe system Main Engine. Test specimens measuring 50mm, 25mm wide, 3mm thick. The specimens
were stored in fresh water solution with a temperature variation of 60 ° C, 70 ° C, 80 ° C, 90 ° C, and each
temperature is given variations inhibitor of 0ppm, 150ppm, 250ppm, 350ppm, the test was carried out for 24 hours
the method of weight loss method. The results of the testing show that the greatest influence on the rate of
corrosion is present on the largest inhibitor inhibitor concentrations Na2CrO4 350 ppm and
temperature 70 ° C by the value of 34.35 mpy. While the value of the rate of corrosion is present on the
smallest concentrations of 350 ppm and temperature 90 ° C by the value of 1.38 mpy. Views of the value
of efficiency then it can be inferred that the great value of efficiency i.e. 0.8% at a temperature of 90 °
C temperature and 0.6% at a temperature of 60 ° C temperature.
