Abstract

Performance issues are commonly encountered in construction projects, particularly
concerning delays, which are a prevalent, costly, complex, and risky problem. For instance, a delay in
piping installation in the construction project of the Smelter in Gresik was experienced by one of its
subcontractors. These risks have the potential for both positive and negative impacts on the project.
Therefore, research was conducted to identify, assess, and analyze the potential risks in the project
and formulate strategies for their management. The research aimed to determine the extent of the
risks present and the strategies for managing the dominant risks in the project. The method involved
distributing questionnaires to 10 respondents and applying the Severity Index (SI) and
Probability-Impact Matrix for risk data analysis. The research findings identified 42 risk variables,
including external, technical, legal, and internal risks, evaluated based on their impact on project
schedule, project targets, safety, and costs. Risk evaluation resulted in 1 category very high risk, 2
categories of high risk, 21 categories of moderate risk, and 18 categories of low risk. Among these 42
risks, strategies for managing risk variables were determined in 4 categories: 8 risk retention, 19
risk reduction, 8 risk transfer, and 7 risk avoidance.
