Abstract

One of the main components used to provide accurate information about the quantity of
gas used or flowed in a gas distribution system is the orifice plate, with the fluid flowing in the form
of natural gas and sand grains with same hole crosssectional area of orifice holes. Abrasive particles
that are carried by the gas flow and also the shear stress that occurs between the moving fluid and the
pipe wall cause the phenomenon of erosion of the pipe wall after passing through the orifice plate.
Therefore, to continue previous research, this study will focus on optimizing the use of variations in
the addition of orifice plate holes with the same hole cross-sectional area. The amount of erosion rate
that occurs in each variation of 1, 2, and 3 holes refers to the DNV standard of 0.179; 0.171, and
0.157 with each variation increasing the lifetime of the pipe by 23.32; 24.40; and 26.56, respectively
can meet the company standard of 20 years.
