Abstract

A hydrocarbon oil distribution pipeline construction project owned by one of a
State-Owned Enterprises that engaged in oil and gas sector is in the process towards the construction
phase. Pipeline is planned to be passing a road crossing on a toll road, so the pipeline should be
installed buried underground. The underground pipeline will be installed at the soil depth 1500 mm
from the ground surface refers to the criteria based on the owner's design basis. The potential failure
of an inadequate soil depth for pipeline burial is overstress from the load on the underground
pipeline. The soil depth criteria in design basis for the underground pipeline installation was
evaluated towards stress of the underground pipeline for the toll road crossing. Based on the stress
analysis using a software and manual calculation, it is found that stress values of underground
pipeline at the soil depth of 1500 mm are still meet the criteria of allowable pipeline stress value.
