Abstract

This research aims to design a fire fighting system in the future spherical tank area Known
spherical tank in this project is a stockpile tank that stores hydrocarbon materials (flammable
materials), therefore needs to design a fire fighting system. The method of research used darcy
weisbach & bernouli equation for head calculation. The fire mitigation methods used by the author
are water spray system and hydrant. The area for which the firefighting system will be designed is
15,575 m
2 with 3 units of 24 m diameter spherical tanks. The main standards used in this research
include NFPA 14, 15 & API 2510. The results show that 6 hydrant pillars and 456 spray nozzles are
required for the design. The pipe diameters used include 6 inch, 8 inch, 14 inch, 16 inch and 24 inch.
Manual calculations obtained a head value of 143.31 m while the results of calculations using
software obtained a head value of 149.21 m with a percentage error of 3.95% and pump power of
494.013 kW. Pump selection in accordance with system specifications based on the selection chart is
the Standart-SDS-H400-50 brand.
