Abstract

Abstract - In the construction of the ETP expansion tank stage 2 of 3000 MT in a palm oil company. The addition of some equipment is due to the increasing amount of palm oil production, the more the waste produced is also increasing. Furthermore, one of the equipment added is a storage tank. in operation, the tanks are used to accommodate aggressive fluids that are alkaline which can cause corrosion on the tank walls. So we need a protection against the tank wall so that the corrosion rate can be slowed down, the best solution is to use a tank lining. So to choose a good tank lining to prevent corrosion, an analysis using a potentiostat and an immersion test was carried out by applying a layer to the tank and comparing the corrosion resistance of different metal and non-metallic materials, namely stainless steel and fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) with the pH 12 and temperature 50?, 75?, 100?. And testing the potentiostat and immersion test with these variations, then compare the remaining life is good for the tank lining. From the analysis, it was found that the highest corrosion rate was on stainless steel material with pH 12 temperature of 100? of 0.03282 mm/year and the and from the calculation of the remaining life of the stainless steel 304 and FRP material, it is known that the remaining life value of the FRP material gets better results than stainless steel 304 by 3000 years. In this analysis, the effect of pH and temperature is directly proportional to the value of the corrosion rate, where the higher the pH and temperature, the higher the corrosion rate, and vice versa, the lower the pH and temperature, the lower the corrosion rate.
