Abstract

FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) is often used in corrosive conditions because it has a fairly high corrosion resistance. In its application, FRP has various types of variations which are composed of different matrices and reinforced. In this study, FRP was made with a variety of composite compositions with a matrix, namely epoxy, silicone rubber and polyester with carbon fiber as the reinforcing fiber. The purpose of this study was to compare the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of these variations using the hand lay-up method. From the results of calculations and data analysis, it shows that composites with an epoxy matrix with a composition of 40% reinforcing fiber and 20º fiber position have the highest strength with a value of 60.77 Mpa in the tensile test and 0.0045 J / mm2 in the impact test. Meanwhile, the effect of the composition on corrosion resistance shows that the composite with a silicone rubber matrix has the best resistance with a corrosion rate value of 0.1248 mmpy.
