Abstract

Expansion loop is a way to reduce the effect of thermal expansion by providing space when the pipe expands and shrinks. The expansion loop design in the LPG company project is still in the engineering stage, so it needs to be analyzed using software to ensure that the design is safe. The existing design of the expansion loop is 3D Loop type and will be compared with the Vertical Loop type. Comparisons are made with the variables sustain load, thermal load, occasional load, and nozzle load in order to obtain an effective expansion loop design. Based on the results of the analysis using software, the values for the 3D Loop design were obtained with a sustain load of 11852.4 psi, a thermal load of 8394.3 psi, and an occasional load of 12412.9 psi. Whereas for the Vertical Loop design with a sustain load value of 11854.1 psi, a thermal load of 8851.4 psi, and an occasional load of 11871.0 psi. The results of the stress analysis for both types of expansion loop designs meet the ASME B31.3 standard. Analysis of the nozzle load values for both types of expansion loop designs meets API 610 permit standards. Based on all analysis results, the 3D type expansion loop design is more effective to use.
