Abstract

In the manufacturing industry, particularly the ceramics industry, machine effectiveness plays a crucial role in ensuring the continuity and efficiency of the production process. One of the main parameters used to measure this effectiveness is availability, which is the level of readiness of a machine to operate according to a predetermined production schedule. This study aims to analyze the availability value of the Line 5A packing machine using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method, as well as to identify the causes of operational downtime based on the Six Big Losses categories. The research method used is descriptive-qualitative, with data collection techniques including documentation of downtime, production output, and actual operational time over two different time periods. The results of the study show significant fluctuations in availability values from period to period, primarily caused by mechanical disruptions, time-consuming setup and adjustment activities, and insufficient implementation of preventive maintenance. The availability values obtained are below the world-class standard (world class ≥ 90%), indicating the need for strategies to improve machine effectiveness. The recommendations generated in this study emphasize the importance of consistently and integrally implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as an effort to reduce downtime and increase availability. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for management in formulating more effective and sustainable maintenance policies.
