Abstract

FRP is a type of composite material consisting of a polymer resin matrix reinforced with glass or carbon fibers. Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) material is a new alternative in structural planning that has the advantage of a very high strength to self-weight ratio. This final project, is comparing the structural strength of joints with adhesive also joints with adhesive and mechanical fastener (bond / bolts). The connection uses Fiber Metal Laminate components which are laminated by sandwich method and the adhesive used is epoxy resin. The comparison of normal and shear stress values between the design of joints using adhesives and joints with mechanical fastener shows that the normal stress and shear stress values of adhesive joints with mechanical fastener are higher than adhesive joints, the values are 311.1 MPa and 366.2 MPa. Joints with adhesive and mechanical fastener have shear stress and normal stress higher than the value of shear stress and normal stress in joints without mechanical fastener
